Dhangethi MP Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim has submitted the decision by the Police Board to dismiss seven top police officials to Parliament’s Security Services Committee.
Nazim told Sun he filed a formal request asking for the decision to be probed by the committee this Sunday.
“My objective is to find them justice. I find the sudden dismissal of such long-serving officials unacceptable,” he said.
Nazim said there are certain formalities that must be followed when it comes to dismissals. And finds the sudden dismissals, without honoring any of the formalities, unacceptable.
“For example, a person accused of something must be questioned and given the opportunity to respond. Action should not be taken against anyone without providing this opportunity,” he said.
Nazim said he believes the Parliament has the authority to look into the issue.
He said that he, as a parliamentarian, will work within the confines of law to seek justice.
Nazim said that as Maldives Police Service begins gradually implementing the new Police Act, there will always be room for improvement.
“We are therefore submitting and discussing the issues that come to our attention,” he said.
