Vaccine centers administering AstraZeneca in Male' area opened for walk-ins

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has stated that starting from today, all vaccine centers administering AstraZeneca vaccine in Greater Malé Area will be open for walk-in vaccination.

However, HPA added that people with pre-booked appointments will be given priority.

Vaccine centers administering AstraZeneca vaccine that will be open for walk-in vaccination include Social Center, Islamic Center, National Art Gallery, and Vilimale’ Hospital.

Prior to this, the first and second doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine were being administered in Greater Male’ Region through appointments booked online.

While the vaccination drive in the Maldives is going ahead at full speed, this current vaccine program ongoing will be the last one. This campaign aims to vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population by the end of this month – and then subsequently the entire population.

Health authorities have recently approved the inoculation of children above the age of 12 years to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Accordingly, children between the ages of 12 and 17 will be administered the Pfizer vaccine. Inoculation is set to commence this month as well.

A vaccine program aimed especially for school children will also commence this week.

In its final effort to inoculate the entire population, Maldives is set to also receive a new vaccine shipment from the United States this afternoon according to the Foreign Ministry.
