Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that a COVID-19 vaccine shipment from the United States will be arriving in the Maldives tomorrow.
Whilst the Ministry has said this, they have not disclosed any additional information regarding the expected shipment – such as which the brand of vaccine is being received, or even how many doses.
As the country expects a new shipment of a COVID-19 vaccine tomorrow, in a press conference held prior to this, Dr. Nazla Musthafa has stated that the Maldives had run out of its stock of Pfizer vaccine and that the authorities were working on securing additional doses.
United States had previously pledged to provide COVID-19 vaccine to the Maldives through the COVAX facility. Canada has as well.
At present, three types of COVID-19 vaccines are being administered in the Maldives being Covishield/AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, and Pfizer. Apart from these vaccines, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, and Sputnik V have also been approved for emergency use in the country.
