Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has been revealed to have collected MVR 106 million in revenue through fine payments within the first six months of this year.
The latest statistics by MIRA shows that this is 79.5 percent increase in the collection of fine payments compared to that of the same period last year. A total of MVR 59 million was collected as fine payments within the first six months of last year.
While MIRA has publicized the total amount of money collected as fine payments – they have not provided any details as to the sources.
This year’s state budget anticipated that a total of MVR 43.8 million will be collected in revenue through fine payments within the course of this year.
As of April 8th of this year, the state had already collected MVR 42 million in revenue through fine payments.
The total revenue collected by MIRA within the first six months of this year amounts to MVR 7.49 billion – comprised of MVR 5.8 billion accounting for taxes and MVR 1.6 billion accounting to other forms of income.
