Two people have tested positive for COVID-19 in K. Kaashidhoo, prompting health authorities to place the island under monitoring.
Kaashidhoo Council president Mohamed Amir told Sun on Wednesday said that the two people who tested positive are foreign workers who got tested at the flu clinic after they began exhibiting symptoms consistent with COVID-19.
He said that the two workers have no recent travel history to Male’ City, and had been stationed in Kaashidhoo.
Amir said that Health Protection Agency (HPA) has placed the island under monitoring in response to the two cases – meaning a ban on travel in and out of the island without permission from HPA.
“This is the second time for this island to be placed under monitoring in response to COVID-19 cases,” he said.
Amir said that the council has decided to re-impose safety measures in the island in response to the cases.
He said that contact tracing is in progress, and that though the general situation in Kaashidhoo is good, the council plans on taking all necessary action in order prevent further spread of the disease within the community.
The new cases in Kaashidhoo marks the first COVID-19 cases in the island in over a month.
