K. Kaashidhoo Council has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Turkish company, for the development of local tourism on the island.

Speaking to Sun, Kaashidhoo Council President Mohamed Amir said that as part of the agreement signed with Turkey’s BNG Insat A.I, the company will be developing a 150-bed hotel at Kaashidhoo’s tourist village area.

The Council has allocated 12 hectares of land for the development of this hotel.

“Tourism at Kaashidhoo is at the beginning stage. The main economic activity on the island is agriculture. There is not much fisheries either. Therefore, the economy of the island will see a significant improvement with this,” he added.

Amir also highlighted that development of tourism at Kaashidhoo will create a large number of job opportunities for the youth.

He also underscored that the project started by Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC) at Kaashidoo’s tourist village has come to halt. As per Amir, 20 hectares of land have been issued to MITDC from the tourist village for the project.

“MITDC will proceed with this project. From a large portion of land available, different parties are given smaller areas of land. That is why we are still seeking investors. Kaashidhoo Council is ready to welcome local investors in this endeavor as well” he had said.
