MP Jeehan elected to IPU's Committee on Democracy and Human Rights

MP for HInnvaru Constituency Jeehan Mahmood has been elected as a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s (IPU) Committee on Democracy and Human Rights.

IPU is a global organization of national parliaments – comprising a total of 157 countries.

Jeehan is the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Humans Rights and Gender of People’s Majilis. She was selected as a member of the IPU’s Committee on Democracy and Human Rights from Asia-Pacific group after competing with candidates from 157 countries.

Following her election, Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed congratulated her and thanked all the countries which voted for Jeehan.

This is the first time a Maldivian has been elected as a member of the IPU.
