In order to enhance the primary healthcare services provided by the Health Ministry, a new institute under the name ‘Maldives Health Service’ is going to be introduced.

Speaking at a press conference held this evening, Health Minister Ahmed Naseem stated that the institute will be inaugurated this July.

Upon its inception, over 108 healthcare service providers that are operating under the Health Ministry will be transferred to this institution – citing the difficulties faced by the Ministry when monitoring healthcare service providers whilst providing primary healthcare services at the same time.

“Healthcare service providers operating under the Health Ministry will be transferred to this institution. Nevertheless, the Ministry will continue to closely monitor them to ascertain quality of services,” he added.

Whilst the government has decided to allocated primary healthcare service to soon-to-be-introduced   ‘Maldives Health Service’, they are also gearing up to introduce a service especially for ambulance needs under the name ‘Emergency Medical Service’.
