Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has initiated work to establish a CCTV network covering the entire suburban Hulhumale’.
HDC said that building a safe and peaceful community in the greater Male’ area is a chief objective of their Smart City Project.
Under the project, all public spaces in Hulhumale’, including the streets and parks, will be covered by video surveillance.
HDC said that all CCTV cameras will be linked through their Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON).
The first cameras will be installed around the Hiyaa flats and in public spaces in Hulhumale’ Phase II.
A CCTV camera network will also be established in Hulhumale Phase I once the GPON Project in the area is complete.
HDC plans on connecting more areas of the greater Male’ with the network in the future.
HDC said they expect the CCTV cameras and other smart resources which will be established under their larger Smart City Project will increase the speed and efficiency of the work of the police and other institutions during emergency situations, improve the speed of detection of emergency situations, and improve inter-agency cooperation.
HDC hopes to build a safe community, where constant police patrols aren’t required.
