Lh. Naifaru marked two months since it was placed under monitoring following the discovery of COVID-19 cases last Sunday, during which time 886 people tested positive.
According to information released by Lh. Atoll Hospital on Sunday, 4,213 samples have been tested for COVID-19 since the recent outbreak was detected.
Seven new cases were confirmed on Sunday, while results on 31 samples remained pending.
There are currently 135 active cases in Naifaru. 747 people have since recovered, while four have died from complications.
Local residents who spoke to Sun cited the island’s large population as one of the reasons for the failure to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Naifaru. Due to the sizable population, large families live together in houses, increasing the risk of infection.
