Neighboring Sri Lanka has announced the decision to close its borders to inbound international travelers for 10 days as it battles an alarming surge in COVID-19 cases.

Maldivian Foreign Ministry has issued statement to warn Maldivian travelers of the new restriction.

Foreign Ministry said that Sri Lanka’s borders will be closed for inbound passengers from May 21-31.

“However, the decision states that outbound travel from Sri Lanka to other countries will be allowed,” said the Foreign Ministry.

Sri Lanka has over 150,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases and over 1,000 fatalities.
