At least two people have tested positive for COVID-19 in L. Dhanbidhoo, prompting health authorities to place the island under monitoring.
The cases in Dhanbidhoo comes with three other islands in L. Atoll – Maandhoo, Gan and Fonadhoo – also under monitoring following COVID-19 cases.
The two cases in Dhanbidhoo are linked with the Maandhoo cluster.
Travel in and out of Dhanbidhoo has been temporarily suspended as health authorities conduct contact tracing and test contacts.
Maldives has 28,588 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 386 new cases on Tuesday. 24,499 people have since recovered, while 71 have died from complications. The country currently has 4,009 active cases.
The country has experienced a rise in COVID-19 cases in residential islands outside of the greater Male’ region in recent weeks. Of the 386 new cases on Tuesday, 198 cases were from residential islands outside the capital.
