An individual treated at the flu clinic in B. Eydhafushi has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting health authorities to place the island under monitoring.
Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) states the individual in question went to the flu clinic after developing symptoms consistent with COVID-19. The results came back positive for COVID-19 on Monday evening.
Travel in and out of Eydhafushi has been temporarily suspended as authorities conduct contact tracing.
Prior COVID-19 cases in Eydhafushi had been individuals under home quarantine.
Following the COVID-19 case this Monday, Eydhafushi had strengthened safety measures, including closing schools for students in grade 9 and below at the B. Atoll Education Center located in the island.
Maldives has 26,348 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 203 new cases on Sunday. 23,591 people have since recovered, while 70 have died from complications. The country currently has 2,678 active cases.
