Monitoring mechanisms at B. Eydhafushi have been lifted just a week after the island was placed under monitoring mechanisms.

Eydhafushi was placed under monitoring mechanisms on August 16 due to the deteriorating COVID-19 situation on the island.

Speaking to Sun today, Eydhafushi Council President Mohamed Fathih stated that the Council was informed by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) that the island was removed from monitoring mechanisms sometime yesterday evening.

Nevertheless, Fathih noted that there were 18 active cases on the island still.

He explained that the monitoring status was lifted as all the random samples taken from the island as of yesterday had come back negative – even though there were active cases.

Additionally, he noted that 62 percent of the eligible population in Eydhafushi are fully vaccinated.
