Fire breaks out on fuel barge off Emboodhu Finolhu

A fire has broken out on board a fuel barge off the coast of Emboodhoo Finolhu.

MNDF states the fire was reported to the authority at approximately 05:50 pm this Saturday.

MNDF spokesperson Major Ibrahim Azim said the barge had been travelling with four crew members; three locals and one foreigner.

The head of Kaani Hotels, Abdulla Nasheed has tweeted that the crew of the barge have been rescued from sea and taken on board one of Kaani Hotels’ speedboats.

They have been transported to Male’ City.

MNDF spokesperson said the barge had been carrying 60,000 liters of diesel from Male’ to L. Atoll.

The barge sank at approximately 06:27 pm.
