Five new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in GDh. Thinadhoo, prompting health authorities to place the island under monitoring and impose a temporary ban on travel in and out of the island.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) issued a statement on Saturday evening announcing that five people in Thinadhoo showing flu symptoms have tested positive for COVID-19.
The island has been placed under monitoring as authorities conduct contact tracing and case investigation.
Thinadhoo Council’s president Ali Amjad told Sun that six cases have been confirmed in Thinadhoo so far this Saturday.
“Three of them went to consult with a doctor at the flu clinic after they fell ill. And the other three were tested following completion of 10 days of quarantine,” he said.
Maldives has confirmed 23,403 COVID-19 cases, including 166 new cases this Saturday. 20,618 people have since recovered, while 66 have died from complications. The country currently has 2,712 active cases.
