The motorcyclist involved in an accident that injured a six-year-old boy in Thinadhoo City on Saturday has been arrested by the police.
The accident took place at the Aabaadhee Hingun road in Thinadhoo at around 6:16 pm Saturday.
CCTV footage shows the young boy suddenly running into the road holding a cat, and getting hit by a speeding motorcycle.
Both the young boy and the motorcyclist fell to the ground from the impact, and a group of adults on the side of the road quickly rushed to the young boy and picking him up.
The boy sustained injuries in the accident and was taken to the Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital.
In a statement on Sunday, a police spokesperson said the motorcyclist involved, identified as a 21-year-old Maldivian male, was arrested by police.
The spokesperson said that the motorcyclist did not have a license to drive a motorcycle, and also fled the scene after the accident.
Meanwhile, the young boy remains admitted at the Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital.
However, Thinadhoo’s deputy mayor Nasrulla Ali, quoting hospital officials, told Sun that the young boy did not sustain serious injuries.
The accident is under further investigation by the police.
