A two-year-old in R. Alifushi has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting health authorities to place the island under monitoring.
Alifushi Council’s president Abdulla Razi told Sun on Saturday that the toddler who tested positive travelled to R. Ungoofaaru – which had been linked with COVID-19 cases in multiple islands – on March 14.
Ungoofaaru has been under monitoring since March 19, after a person who showed flu symptoms tested positive for COVID-19. People who travelled out of Ungoofaaru after March 2 have been instructed to report themselves to local health authorities and self-quarantine.
Razi said the toddler has been in quarantine since March 19.
He said that Alifushi was placed under monitoring to conduct a further investigation in connection to the case.
Maldives has confirmed 23,403 COVID-19 cases, including 166 new cases this Saturday. 20,618 people have since recovered, while 66 have died from complications. The country currently has 2,712 active cases.
