Umar Naseer withdraws case against DRP

Vice President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), and former Deputy Leader of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Umar Naseer has withdrawn the case filed to Court against DRP for dismissing him from the party.

Umar requested the Court in 2010 to rule that DRP’s decision to dismiss him from the party is not valid.

While the case was in progress in Court, DRP raised a point of procedure and said that the case cannot be continued; however, Civil Court ruled that it can in fact be continued.

DRP appealed this decision by Civil Court to High Court, and High Court also ruled that the case can be continued in Civil Court.

Umar Naseer told Sun Online today that he decided to withdraw the case because DRP is a relatively small party, and it does not make sense for the Vice President of the party with the biggest support to take a small party to Court.
