Tourism Ministry has engaged in discussions with Segittur – a Spanish state-owned company involved in the tourism industry – regarding developing the Maldivian tourism industry through research and innovation.
Maldivian Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom met with Segittur’s President Enrique Martinez Marin and Director of Tourism Research Development and Innovation Carlos Romero Dexeus in Spain on Thursday, in the sidelines of the 113th session of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Executive Council.
During the discussions, Segittur briefed Mausoom regarding Spain’s tourism development policies and the work by the company to develop tourism.
According to the Tourism Ministry, the discussion especially focused on ways research and communications and information technology can be utilized for tourism development.
Mausoom, meanwhile, spoke of the efforts to develop tourism in southern and northern regions of Maldives, and said Segittur is welcome to use their expertise and get involved in the project.
Segittur is a state company dedicated to promoting innovation and new technologies in tourism, supporting entrepreneurial initiatives linked to the sector, and improve Spain’s popularity among competitive tourist destination.
