Former deputy governor Zahira appointed chairperson of CMDA

Former Deputy Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), Aishath Zahira has been appointed as Chairperson of Capital Market Development Authority (CMDA).

According to the Financial Securities Act, members to the Board of Directors of CMDA must be appointed by the President under the advisement of the Cabinet.

Zahira had retired from MMA after 31 years of service on July 22, 2020. She served for two terms as Deputy Governor during her time at MMA.

Others on CMDA’s Board of Directors in addition to Zahira are:

Aishath Nadiya, Senior Executive Director/Maldives Monetary Authority

Ahmed Siraj, Secretary-General/Privatization and Corporatization Board, Finance Ministry

Mariyam Wisam, Registrar of Companies/Economic Development Ministry

Fathimath Shafneez, representative of private sector

Rifa’ath Jaleel, representative of private sector

Meanwhile, the position of CMDA’s Chief Executive Officer remains vacant.
