COVID-19: Maldives records 30 new cases in 24 hours

Health Protection Agency (HPA), has announced 30 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in the Maldives to 12,608.

According to HPA, the new cases include 22 locals and eight foreigners.

27 of the cases were identified from the greater Male’ region, while the remaining three cases were identified from the atolls.

Meanwhile, 40 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 11,599.

With the new developments, Maldives now has 956 active cases.

There are 344 patients in isolation facilities and 86 in hospitals.

1,763 samples have been tested for the COVID-19 over the last 24 hours.

The Maldives identified its first case on March 7, and declared a state of public health emergency over the pandemic less than a week later on March 12.

 

46 COVID-19 patients have died from complications.

There are active COVID-19 cases in 12 residential islands outside of the greater Male’ area.

There are also active cases in 31 resorts, including 54 tourists and 155 staff.
