Ministry of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has announced the decision to grant the option to defer the payment of rent on flats built under government housing projects in Male’, Hulhumale’, and other residential islands for an additional three months.

Ministry of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure said that the original six month deferment on rent payment in light of the COVID-19 pandemic ended on August, but that the government has received requests from many tenants requesting for an extension to the deferment period.

Tenants are required to continue paying the monthly maintenance fee, and the deferment period will be added on to the rent agreement.

Tenants who wish to apply for rent deferent are required to email the Ministry of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure to [email protected] with a copy of their ID card and the rent agreement reference number by October 15.
