Education Ministry has announced that schools in Male’ city will reopen for ninth and tenth graders in October.

According to a statement released by Education Ministry on Saturday morning, the decision was made after assessing the COVID-19 situation, and consulting with Health Protection Agency (HPA).

Schools in Male’ will reopen for ninth and tenth graders on Sunday, October 4.

Schools in Male’ are currently open for eleventh and twelfth graders.

Schools in Male’ – the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in Maldives – were reopened for ninth graders and above under strict health safety measures in July after a drop in COVID-19 numbers. However, the relaxation of the lockdown measures in Male’ led to a spike in numbers in the weeks that followed, leading to schools being closed once again.

Classes are since being held virtually.
