The United States of America has donated sixty critical care ventilators to the Maldives, to assist the nation in its bid to combat COVID-19.

In a virtual ceremony held today, the ventilators donated were received by the Maldivian Ambassador in Sri Lanka Omar Abdul Razzaq. Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives Alaina Teplitz handed over the ventilators.  Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid also took part in the ceremony held virtually.

The Foreign Minister said that the US National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien had pledged commitment to the government of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and that donation of ventilators would substantially increase the capacity of the Maldivian healthcare system to effectively combat the virus.

The donation was a testament to the evergrowing relationship between the two nations, said Minister Shahid.

Ambassador Teplitz stated that the US would also be assisting in the training of healthcare workers to operate the machinery as well as maintenance of the machinery.
