Maldives receives WTTC ‘Safe Travels’ stamp

Maldives has received the Safe Travels stamp granted by World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), in recognition the country’s efforts in implementing enhanced health and safety measures, in line with WTTC’s protocols.

The receipt of the stamp was announced by Tourism Ministry in a statement on Tuesday evening.

“The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has recognized the efforts of Maldives in implementing enhanced health and safety measures, in line with WTTC global Safe Travels protocols, and creating a safe, gradual plan by rebuilding confidence among travellers and ensuring a coordinated approach in restarting our Tourism industry,” announced the Tourism Ministry in its statement.

The Safe Travels stamp granted by WTTC is endorsed by the World Tourism Organization and more than 200 travel companies.

The objective of the Safe Travels stamp is to boost confidence of travellers, and provide assurance that enhanced health and safety measures are in place to ensure that they experience safe travels.

Introduced to address the coronavirus pandemic and other similar outbreaks of disease, the Safe Travels stamp marks the world’s first ever global safety and hygiene stamp for travel and tourism.

The WTTC Safe Travels stamp is also recognized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

Maldives reopened its borders for international travel on July 15, and is currently open to all tourists, provided they have proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken maximum 72 hours before departure from their original destination.

Resorts and liveaboard vessels were allowed to resume operations in July, and guesthouses in residential islands outside of the greater Male’ region are scheduled to reopen in October.
