COVID-19: 11 people quarantined in connection to Manadhoo case

N. Atoll Regional Hospital confirmed on Saturday that 11 people have been quarantined following contact with a coronavirus patient in N. Manadhoo.

The person who tested positive from Manadhoo had been under home quarantine after travelling from Male’ – the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in Maldives. He had been on board a boat on a fishing trip, in violation of the terms of home quarantine when authorities attempted to locate him to deliver his test results.

N. Atoll Regional Hospital’s manager Ismail Shafeeq told Sun on Saturday afternoon that the 11 people placed under quarantine include those who on board the boat with the patient, and several others who voluntarily identified themselves as his contacts to the authorities.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said on Friday that the violation of terms of home quarantine is under investigation by the authorities.

Manadhoo has been placed under monitoring.

Shafeeq said that neither the patient, nor his contacts, are symptomatic.

 Maldives has 8,990 confirmed coronavirus cases, including 90 new cases recorded on Friday. 6,846 patients have since recovered, while 31 have died from complications.

There are 100 active cases in 28 residential islands outside of greater Male’. There are also active cases in 25 resorts, including 13 tourists and 42 staff.
