Customers inside cafe, restaurants exempted from mask rule

HPA’s guideline on café’s and restaurants has been amended so that customers will not need to wear masks while inside such establishments. 

Authorities made masks mandatory in the Male’ City area after a recent surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the nation. Anyone in violation would be fined MVR 1,000 after an initial warning. 

Only children aged below two and people with disabilities that make masks hard to wear or take off as well as elderly individuals out for exercising are exempted from this rule.

The amended guideline by HPA, now states that the customers will not need to don masks while obtaining service from cafés and restaurants. HPA stated that the mask rule was for the safety and security of everyone in the nation and was made mandatory under the public health safety laws of the nation.

COVID-19 cases have now increased to 4,164 in the Maldives along with the death of 18 people.
