Addu City Council has decided against holding congregational Eid prayers in the City following suit with the capital Male’ City.
An announcement by Addu City Council read that, congregational prayers would not be held for Eid, however, all mosques that perform Friday prayers will be permitted to hold the Eid prayers. The Council also advised to wear masks and use individual prayer mats when attending the mosque.
Eid prayers in Male’ City in recent times have been held at the Ekuveni Turf Grounds in the west of the city. Hundreds gather in the location to perform the collective Eid prayers annually. However, due to COVID-19. Islamic Ministry had announced that the country would not be holding collective Eid prayers this year.
However, Eid prayers will still be performed on an individual basis at all of the main mosques in the city.
