Expatriates hold protests in Hulhumale'

Protests have been staged by expatriate workers over unpaid wages in Hulhumale’.

The expatriates that protested were workers of the flats designated for MNDF and police personnel.

The migrants reportedly said that they were protesting over nearly eight months of unpaid wages. The protests occurred near the Ameen Avenue flats in Hulhumale’. Witnesses said that an altercation with a local employee of the Island Expert company which is in charge of constructing the flats.

The expatriates only left the area after police spoke with them. However, some expatriates that spoke with journalists from Sun said that they would hold bigger protests in the coming week if their concerns were not addressed.

Employees of the company have held protests last month over the same issue.
