Former President Yameen’s appeal hearing has been scheduled for next Wednesday.

Yameen was convicted of money laundering by the Criminal Court at the end of last year. He was found guilty of laundering USD 1 million from the MMPRC scandal involving the acquisition costs of G. A. Vodamulla.

The case was appealed to the High Court later on. Yameen’s political allies have dubbed the trial as a sham and have maintained his innocence.

An appeal hearing of the case was last held on March 5. Opposition figures have been constantly calling to speed up the trial which has been halted due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
