Parliamentary Committee meetings held via video conference due to COVID-19 will be held in the Parliament building from now on.
Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed instructed Committee chair members to do so during a meeting held today.
MP for Hulhudhoo and the chair of the State-Owned Enterprises Committee of the Parliament Ilyas Labeeb said after the meeting that the Speaker had instructed to hold Committee meetings inside the parliament meeting as opposed to via video conference.
“The Speaker instructed that the Committee meetings and Parliament sessions are to be held in the Parliament under social distancing measures.” Said the MP.
The MP also said that the Speaker had requested to prioritize issues and inquiries of the Committees and inform the Secretary-General after identifying them.
“So we will discuss the issues at the Committee and inform the Speaker.” Said MP Ilyas.
Parliament sessions were recommenced in actuality inside the Majlis building last week. Under special arrangements and measures, health authorities and Police permitted the sessions to be recommenced. However, HPA has stated that the recommended option was to conduct virtual sessions and also stated that it was not advisable to conduct sessions other than for essential purposes.
