Tourism Ministry unable to contact 26 resort staff registered to travel

Tourism Ministry has said that it has been unable to contact 26 employees of resorts that requested to return to their residential islands after being stranded in the capital.

The individuals will be placed in a 14-day quarantine before being allowed to travel back to their residential islands.

A total of 42 days has passed since the capital city was placed in lockdown. The most densely populated city in the world was placed under curfew and lockdown on April 15 after a community case of COVID-19 was discovered.

During this time, only those who are permitted to travel by the authorities can do so. The government has also imposed a travel ban across the country to curb the spread of the virus. Those who are permitted to travel are required to complete a quarantine period of 14-days.

Tourism Ministry noted that 582 individuals have registered to do so. 80 individuals not counted as resort employees were removed from the list. 467 individuals have been placed in transit quarantine facilities. 35 remain to be placed in quarantine while the Ministry has been unable to contact 26 individuals.

Work to place these individuals in quarantine was halted due to this, read a statement by the Ministry.
