Samples collected for COVID-19 from Hulhumale’ prison

Maldives Correctional Services has announced that samples have been collected for COVID-19 from prison guards and inmates in the prison in Hulhumale’.

The samples were collected to ensure that the prison was free from the virus and followed suit with previous sample collection efforts in Maafushi Prison, Asseyri Prison, and Male’ Prison.

Samples are collected randomly from prisons.

30 sample were collected from individuals including inmates and guards at the prison by NEOC and Corrections officials.

Samples were collected from 15 inmates, five migrants who were detained as well as 10 officers and employees of the prison. Samples taken from prisons previously have all returned as negative.


The Maldives has so far confirmed 1,216 cases of the virus along with four deaths and 104 recoveries.
