A lockdown order on the major hub of Kulhudhuffushi in the north has been extended by the authorities.
The extended order will now expire on May 23. City Council president Abdul Latheef Hassan said to Sun that the city has been in a state of lockdown since April 21.
Restrictions on the curfew imposed on the city were introduced as the month of May began, said the Council President.
“Residents can spend time outdoors from 6:00 to 15:00 without any permits. After 15:30, until 6:00 the next day, only permit holders will be allowed outside.” He said.
He requested the residents to adhere to the lockdown order during this timer and noted the cooperation being received for the order right now as well. The main work of the task force was to ensure that the city remained free of the virus, said Hassan.
“People come from H.A, H. Dh, and Sh. Atoll to consult with doctors in the island. So there is a chance that the virus could be identified in the city. We are taking extra precautions so that this does not happen. God willing, the city does not have any indications of the virus so far.” Said Hassan.
Curfew violators will be met with a fine between MVR 500 and MVR 5000, based on the severity of the offense.
The Council also expressed gratitude to the residents of the City for the cooperation authorities receive in its efforts to control the virus.
