Foreign Ministry will be assisting in transporting “critical medications” from abroad that are not available from the Maldives.
The Ministry stated that it will transport such medications from countries such as Thailand, India, and Sri Lanka through the High Commissions in those countries. The Ministry stated that such medications will be transported once the High Commissions receive the medication and letter of prescription.
The move by the Ministry comes in light of the situation with COVID-19 where difficulties have been posed in obtaining such medications abroad.
Medications for 78 individuals have so far been transported by the Ministry in this manner. The Ministry stated that the medications should be of essential needs and stressed that the packaging for the medications must be secure when the diplomatic missions abroad receive these medications.
The Ministry will be collaborating with Maldives Airports Company Limited and Maldives Red Crescent for the work.
