The Criminal Court will commence with the remand hearings of inmates via video conference starting from next Sunday onwards.

The court decided to suspend its trails and hearings due to the spread of VODI-19 in the Maldives in April.

A statement issued by the court today read that the remand hearings of the court were still to continue on without any disruptions even during the lockdown period.

The remand hearings will be conducted based on the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court. The guidelines state that moving ahead with the hearings conducted via video will depend upon the consent of the accused.

The court is also working to make arrangements so that its employees can work from home more conveniently during the situation with the lockdown.
