Government to introduce 10 scholarships for students completing A Levels

The Government has decided to introduce 10 scholarships every year for students completing Advanced Level education.

In a ceremony held last Thursday at Darubaaruge to hand out certificates and prizes for the top 10 students in the last batch of Advanced Level examinations, Education Minister Shifa Mohamed announced the decision. She said that the scholarships would be funded by the Government’s Education Fund. She also said that the selection criteria for students for the scholarships was due to be established.

Minister Shifa also said that 5 million Rufiyaa was spent each year, during the last two years, out of the Education Fund.

The Ministry of Education said today that the ten scholarships would be hosted locally and that they would be opportunities to achieve degree level, and that all the costs would be covered under the scholarship scheme.

The Ministry also said that the purpose of the scholarships was to attract Advanced Level students to higher studies.
