National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) medical officer, Dr. Ibrahim Afzal has stated that three out of the six COVID-19 patients admitted in the Dharumavantha Hospital’s DH11 facility are doing well.

Speaking in a press conference tonight, Dr. Afzal stated that the three patients were doing well and were admitted due to their old age and vulnerability to the virus which was noted by health officials. All six patients admitted to the hospital are elderly individuals.

Out of the remaining three patients, one was being treated with a ventilator while the other two patients were receiving oxygen through an external source.

The patient being treated with a ventilator is an 88-year old male. The individual was connected with a ventilator on Sunday and Dr. Afzal stated that the man’s condition was not improving so far. The patient is the husband of the first patient of COVID-19 to pass away in the Maldives.

“The patient is still connected with a ventilator, meaning that the patient’s condition has not changed.” Said Dr. Afzal.

The oxygen supply was connected for two patients who are aged 80 and 70. The other three patients at Dharumavantha Hospital are a 58-year old Maldivian female, a 48-year old male who is a foreigner, and an 80-year old female Maldivian from the island of Manadhoo.

The Maldives has now confirmed 545 cases of the virus with 18 recoveries.
