Addu city council, Ugail Foundation collaborate to establish an order/delivery system

Addu city council, at the initiative of Ugail Foundation, has established an order/delivery system to facilitate access to food and other essentials to city’s residents amid a lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Ugail Foundation is a non-profit founded by Professor Ugail Hassan, a celebrated mathematician and computer scientist who is a native of Addu.

According to the Addu city council, all businesses which have been issued delivery permit by the council will have access to the system.

A support team from Ugail Foundation is scheduled to hold separate sessions with each business to guide them regarding the registration process and usage of the system.

Businesses have been instructed to call the council to seek appointments for the sessions.

Addu City, soon after the confirmation of a community spread of COVID-19 within the capital Male’ City, had imposed restrictive measures including the suspension of non-essential business activities and issuance of a stay home order, deciding that food and other necessities would be delivered to homes. However, the delivery system established at the time failed, leading to residents leaving their homes to purchase food and other essentials. This forced the council to ease its restrictions.
