Foreign Minister of Maldives Abdulla Shahid has held discussions with the Foreign Minister of Kuwait, Shiekh/Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber regarding the COVID-19 situation faced by both countries.

The discussions were held in a phone call made today, and Minister Shahid praised the leadership of the Kuwaiti government and senior health officials on the precise measures taken in the country to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Discussions also focused on areas where the two countries could collaborate and mitigate the economic impact of the pandemic virus on the Maldivian economy. Minister Shahid also thanked the government of Kuwait for the assistance and support provided by the country as a partner in the development of Maldives.

Since 1970, Kuwait has been an important partner in the development of the Maldives.

Several infrastructure projects have been initiated by Kuwait in the Maldives, which stands testament to the close ties between the two nations. The main international airport of Maldives, Velana International Airport is a prime example of Kuwaiti assistance in the development of Maldives.
