The curfew announced in relation to the COVID-19 virus in the northern city of Kulhudhuffushi in the Maldives has been extended.
The curfew was announced in Kulhudhuffushi last Tuesday after a positive case of COVID-19 visited the island had contact with multiple people from the island. Initially, the curfew was for just three days, however, now, it has been extended to a week.
The Director-General of Public Health has extended the power to restrict the movement of people and ban public gatherings to councils in the country.
Violations of the curfew order issued under the directive by the Kulhudhuffushi City Council could see fines between MVR 500 and MVR 5000, under the discretion of the City Council.
The Maldives has so far confirmed 108 cases of the virus.
