National Emergency Operations Center has announced that the positive cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives include an individual that completed the mandatory quarantine period of 14-days upon returning from abroad.
In a press conference underway tonight, the NEOC medical officer, Dr. Nazla Rafeeq stated that the individual, a local, had returned from the UK and completed the mandatory quarantine period before testing positive for the virus.
Providing details of the case, Dr. Nazla stated that the individual had returned on March 23, and tested negative for the virus on March 28. The individual had also tested negative upon release from quarantine on April 6. The individual was released on April 7 after testing negative.
“Coincidentally, the individual is a close contact of another positive case and had been infected with the virus after coming into contact (with the positive individual) later on.” Said Dr. Nazla.
The individual was taken into isolation after being deemed as a High-Risk Contact and had tested positive on April 21. Dr. Nazla reaffirmed that the individual was infected after being released from quarantine and contact with a positive case in the Maldives.
