Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), on Thursday, announced a cease in physical visits by its workers to take readings from water meters, and asked customers to send photos of meters in order to take readings.

The greater Male’ region has been under lockdown since April 15, following the emergence of COVID-19 cases in the capital.

MWSC announced this morning that its staff were immobile at the moment due to the lockdown, and would therefore not be making visits to take readings from water meters.

Customers who had not received their water bills prior to the lockdown have been asked to send a photo of their water meter in order to take readings.

MWSC said that customers who are required to send in photos would be notified by the company via SMS, till the end of this month.

MWSC apologized for the inconvenience to customers, and asked for their patience and support.

MWSC managing director Hassan Shah has previously stated that the company will not cut off water to any residence in Male’ amid the current COVID-19 outbreak, even if customers get delayed in settling bills.

The company has also supplied one-ton of water to each residence free of charge, and the government has announced it will subsidize 30 percent of water bills for the next two months.
