Alarming figures revealed from virus contact tracing

Worrisome details have been revealed from the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC)’s contact tracing information.

The information showed that contacts of just two clusters now numbered at 190. Around 181 contacts have been identified so far from the 17 positive cases identified today.

The figures were revealed by NEOC medical officer Dr. Ibrahim Afzalwho said that the 17 positive cases today had around 181 contacts. Dr. Afzal added that out of the 17 confirmed today, two clusters have been identified from Case 76, 77 and 78. One of the clusters had 50 contacts, while the other had 140.

“Two hubs have been identified from cases 76, 77 and 78. Looking at the individuals in these two hubs, 50 and 140 are there, which means that this can turn out to be quite a large hub.

Contacts of other cases confirmed today

  • Case 68: 8 contacts
  • Case 69 (MNDF): 41 contacts
  • Case 70, 71, 72: 34 contacts
  • Case 73 (connected with case 78): 4 contacts
  • Case 74, 75 (connected to Ameen Hiyaa construction employees): 3 contacts (2 positive cases)
  • Case 79 (imported case from a dental clinic): 0 contacts so far
  • Case 80 (Bank of Ceylon): 14 contacts
  • Case 81: 20 contacts
  • Case 82: 0 contacts so far
  • Case 83: 15 contacts
  • Case 84: 4 contacts

“In total, 181 contacts. These are in addition to the 140 and 50 included in the hub.” Said Dr. Afzal indicating to the cases of 76, 77 and 78. 

The Maldives has so far confirmed 84 cases of Covid-19. The majority of these cases are from the capital of the country which is under a lockdown order.
