National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) medical officer Dr. Ibrahim Afzal has stated that the results of the lockdown order issued on the capital in light of the confirmed virus cases was extremely effective despite some issues in the beginning.

Responding to a question by a journalist in tonight’s press conference, Dr. Afzal said that the lockdown in the capital was very effective with the added measures to enforce it.

“In the beginning, when the lockdown was initiated on the city due to the first case, it was not heeded much by the public. However, right now the lockdown is being imposed very strongly.” Said the doctor.

He added that the current cases of Covid-19 identified were mostly confined to a specific location and not connected to other cases throughout the city. The risk of the virus spreading between contacts in different locations was now very much reduced, said the doctor.

Male' City is in a state of lockdown sine April 15, 2020 when the first case of Covid-19 was tested positive from the city after nearly 45 days since the virus was first detected from a tourist from a resort.

The medical professionals in the country had made extreme efforts to prolong the arrival of the virus in the capital, and are now working to reduce the impact of the virus in the capital. The country has confirmed more than 80 cases of the virus, with the majority coming from the capital.
