National Emergency Operations Center has identified 41 contacts of an MNDF officer who tested positive for Covid-19.

Government spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez, at a press conference in the afternoon, confirmed the news of the positive case. Mabrouq said that contact tracing of how the officer was infected was now underway at the press conference.

The information was announced in a press conference tonight by NEOC medical officer Dr. Ibrahim Afzal. He confirmed that the MNDF officer, much like other officers, was a frontline worker in the fight against the virus. A total of 41 contacts had been identified from the case so far, said the doctor.

Referring to the locations visited by the officer, Dr. Afzal stated that most of the contacts of the officer were probably other army officers.

The security services make up a significant portion of the frontline workers in the situation with the virus in the country. They have been involved in almost every aspect of the work from delivering essential supplies to households to enforcing curfew and lockdown in the capital. Male’ City has confirmed 17 cases of the virus today alone. The total figure for the whole country currently stands at 84.
