National Emergency Operations Center has announced that the capital city of Male’ is set to undergo a process of fumigation tomorrow in order to exterminate mosquitoes.
Medical professionals of the country have warned that the country could be subjected to a rise in the number of influenza cases amid the spell of rainy weather experienced.
In a press conference underway tonight, government spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez stated that the capital would be fumigated against such a threat. Mabrouq also stated that the City Council had made arrangements today regarding such a situation.
One of such tasks would be to fumigate the capital, according to Mabrouq.
“(City Council) has informed that fumigation is set to commence tomorrow in anticipation of an increase in mosquitoes. Necessary chemicals designated for breeding sites would also be used under these efforts.” Said Mabrouq.
Mabrouq also announced that discussions with MWSC were underway to deploy extra vehicles to pump waters from the streets of Male’ in case of flooding.
The Maldives Meteorological Services had today issued yellow alerts to several areas of the country regarding expected bad weather.
NEOC medical team member, Dr. Moosa Hussain today stated that the number of influenza and common cold cases could increase in the country and attributed the rise to the bad weather. He advised people to report if symptoms of these diseases are identified since they are similar to Covid-19 symptoms which has also seen an increase in the capital.
