The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) medical officer Dr. Moosa Hussain has warned that the country may see a spike in the number of influenza cases.
The doctor was speaking in a news conference today when he warned that the country may see a rise in such cases of influenza and common cold due to the current spell of bad weather resulting in heavy rainfall.
“Due to a spell of rain (experienced in the country), other respiratory illnesses are also being identified. Influenza as well. So, in addition to Covid-19, common cold and influenza cases are also likely to increase.” Said the doctor.
He noted that the symptoms of cold such as phlegm in the lungs, breathing difficulties, shortness of breath and coughing are also all symptoms of Covid-19 and requested people to contact HPA as soon as such symptoms are identified.
Speaking in the same press conference, Dr. Ibrahim Afzal stated that chlorine supplies to disinfect and clean were sent to locations of the country. He added that the necessary stocks of chlorine were supplied in case of such a situation which was not warranted right now.
The Maldives is experiencing a spell of bad weather and yellow alerts were issued for some areas of the country tonight as well.
