Five more islands placed under restrictive measures

Temporary restrictions on the movement of people on a further five islands in the Maldives have been imposed by the government in light of the situation with Covid-19.

The islands were announced by the National Emergency Operations Center spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez in a press conference earlier today.

The five new islands are:

  • B. Fulhadhoo
  • Dh. Kudahuvadhoo
  • Thulhaagiri Island Resort
  • K. Thulusdhoo
  • K. Kuda Villingili

Mabrouq also announced that some islands were returned to a state of normalcy after similar measures. The islands are H. Dh. Nolhivaran, R. Muravandhoo, and R. Bodufushi.

Islands that are still being kept under monitoring mechanisms are:

  • K. Guraidhoo
  • H.A. Maarandhoo
  • H. Dh. Vaikaradhoo
  • H. Dh. Hirimaradhoo
  • H. A. Hoarafushi
  • H. A. Thakandhoo
  • H. A. Ihavandhoo
  • H. A. Uligan
  • Joali Maldives resort

A total fo 17 cases have been confirmed in the capital Male’ City today alone. The government has previously announced that anyone that traveled from the capital area to other islands of the country to place themselves in isolation as a precaution against the spread of the virus.

More than 1,380 people have been identified from contact tracing efforts of the authorities, and 19 locations in the capital are being monitored as well.

The total number of confirmed cases in the Maldives now stands at 84.
